In discussing Zen
much consideration is given
to throwing the stone,
describing its arc
and rippling water.
This is correct
for 'discussion Zen'.
In 'practice Zen'
we find the stone
at the bottom of the pond.

There's an old Buddhist saying that goes something like this:
Do nothing.
However, if you do something, finish it.
I began creating these sticks after we removed a cherry tree from our
back yard. We had previously had some work done with a bulldozer
and the operator scraped the tree, tearing off some of the bark.
The tree then got a canker and was just about dead when we cut it down.
As the logs from the tree aged, I noticed how the heart of the tree
turned a beautiful, dark amber color characterisitc of cherry and I
decided to make some teaching sticks from this heart of cherry. |
